About

Our family is grateful for the love and support we’ve received on this journey.

Super Safe Capes started with a simple idea: play should feel brave and be safe.

A playful scene that inspired a safer cape idea

Where it began

Our journey started back in 2008. My wife, Laura, was watching our nephews and niece one summer afternoon. The kids had been playing superheroes for hours — capes flying, laughter echoing through the house.

Then something made everyone stop. One of our nephews had tied a costume cape around his neck, and as the kids ran through the living room, another accidentally tugged on it. No one was hurt, but it was a moment.

Laura immediately thought: there has to be a safer way.

That night, she sketched a cape that wrapped under the arms instead of around the neck — the same bravery and magic, without the neck pull. The idea stuck.

Life kept moving

Like most families, life took over. We started new jobs, bought our first house, and became parents. The cape design sat in a notebook — a drawing among grocery lists and half-finished to-do notes.

Every few years we’d find it and talk about “someday.” In 2023, “someday” finally arrived. With our kids old enough to help and a renewed sense of purpose, we decided to make it real.

From sketch to stitch

Our first prototypes were stitched on the dining table. We tested fabrics from lightweight cottons to soft satin blends and refined elastic loops that rest comfortably under the arms.

We wanted a cape that looks heroic and moves like a real costume — without tugging on the neck. Every test led to refinements: a wider strap here, a stronger seam there.

That’s when Aubriel, a talented local seamstress and friend of the family, joined us. Together we built the first official prototypes — bright, bold, and durable — each one hand-stitched and checked for comfort and safety.

By 2025 we took the leap. Super Safe Capes is made by hand in Columbus, Ohio, in small batches. We don’t outsource. We don’t mass-produce. We build carefully and with pride.

Our first pattern is limited to 1,000 capes — each sewn, inspected, and numbered. A small-batch collectible that represents the start of something bigger.

Today, every cape we ship carries a piece of our story — a reminder that imagination and safety can go hand in hand.
